Soo, this will be a quick post but I wanted to get this up here. I recently posted this on my tumblr so I thought it only right that I include it on here as well. This was a look I did on myself recently for business cards that I made up to promote my freelance. I was really excited with how this came out, and I just love the pop of green! Comment below with any feedback on my look!
Catching-Up and Online Makeup Courses???
So it’s been forever since I’ve blogged, and not only am I going
through withdrawal, but I’m looking at other posts and it’s giving me
great ideas! But, we’ll just do some quick catch-up:
Sooo…I’m currently working at my college (part-time), and am not
working in makeup right now…because…I’ve been so busy and am going
to be so busy! My summer is filled with a lot of work still, some
volleyball, and hanging out with friends. And rather than murder
myself then try to enter my junior year of college, I have decided to
have an easy summer. But my summer’s been pretty fun. I’ve done some
shopping trips, visited some family, been to concerts and of course
been practicing makeup!
But enough about me and my catching up, let’s talk about makeup
courses. Are they worth it? Why am I taking it? Which one am I looking
at? What does it entail?
So, I am currently looking into the Trendimi makeup online course. I’m
sure, for anybody that looks, this is a course that is claimed to
retail for $400. However, there are numerous sites that are offering
this course for just $29. (I found mine on Groupon.)
The course allows 45 days to complete the 9 modules and receive your
certificate. Plus, it’s all online and you don’t have to send in any
pictures. Sounds too good to be true right??!!
>From the reviews that I’ve seen its about 50/50. Some people hate it,
and others love it. My interpretation is this: the course seems very
trivial and basic for a lot of people who already have experience with
makeup (or even those who watch youtube.)
For me, I would like to take the course because it does count in many
places, it’ll help to go along with a portfolio when applying for
cosmetic jobs (for many area cosmetics sales positions it will count
as full certification), and for $29 I figure you can’t go wrong. The
site also claims that with the certificate you can get the MAC pro
card.
I have not taken the course yet, so as of right now I can’t give any
concrete details. However, I am planning on buying the course off of
Groupon, and so when I take it I’ll be sure to post a follow up review
on my experience. I’ll let you know some of the modules, if I thought
it was worth it, if I could get a job with it, and if I can get a MAC
pro card.
Hopefully this information will help you guys if you’re thinking about
taking a course, and if you already have please comment your reactions
below!!
Sorry I haven’t posted in forever, but I’ll be on here much more often!
Prom Season!
SOOoooo, it’s getting to be that time again! It’s getting warmer, the snows gone so you know what that means….Prom Season! For many of us it’s our favorite time of year, and for some of us…not so much. Prom can be exciting, life-changing, devastating, and nightmareish. The point is it’s different for everybody, but for me it’s a wonderful time of year!
Prom for me is beauty, extravagance, luxury and a time to make people gasp.
As a makeup artist I’m booking up appointments, and it’s something to consider…how much is too much? Prom is a wonderful time of year, but also one of the most expensive.
When considering your prom look, consider what works for you. Consider your eye color, hair color, and complexion. For blue eyes, pinks and neutrals will often work best. For green eyes, purples and blues will go well. For brown eyes, purples, greens and blues are all great. Neutrals can work on everyone, and considering how you use colors, anything can work for your skin tone.
Coming soon, I’ll be putting up posts about my free lance kit as well as looks that I’ll be doing on my clients. Stay put to see exciting things coming up! And I hope Prom season is as wonderful a time of year for all of you as it is for me!!
Coming Of Age
So I decided to take a break from my makeup posts to have an actual discussion with you folks. In my class recently, we had an assignment due that consisted of us taking pictures of what we thought described the term “coming of age.” So, I came up with an idea of what to do, but I was also interested in hearing what you guys had to say, so please comment below with what your idea of “coming of age” means!
For the assignment, we had to take only 5 pictures, and they needed to depict “coming of age.” Through these 5 pictures we could either do separate pictures of “coming of age” or we could create a scene of our thoughts. For my project I chose to center around a theme. I’m a commuter at my school, so centering around the theme of my car was a perfect idea for me!
So let me start by talking about what “coming of age means.” From the research I’ve done, it seems to just mean events or policies/regulations that show that one has matured or become an adult. It’s a very interpretive term. Depending on where your from and your culture becoming an adult takes on different faces. For some cultures it means certain religious rituals that take place, while in other cultures (like our own) it means certain right of passages that mean we are now able to do things that were once illegal when we were young. These things may be laws such as drinking, driving, or betting while it could be as simple as being now tall enough to ride on theme park rides. As I said before its very open to interpretation.
For me, driving symbolized a huge coming of age representation. So I started with a picture of my car, which is what all kids want? right? Having your own car means you can be independent, youre the big kid on campus, you’re now an adult. Well it certainly means you’re an adult. Which is why I followed up the image of my car with a bunch of pictures of the nitty gritty to do with cars. Now it wasn’t anything intricate because we actually only had a day and a half to complete the assignment so it was quite simple. The first picture being of my car, the second of an auto body, the third of a car wash, the fourth of a gas station and finally a picture from my accident.
Through all of these images I wanted to show that being an adult can be a wonderful thing, and I loved being able to have my own responsibility. But the point is, having responsibility means being prepared for whatever has to happen, and knowing theres a chance that bad things may come with the awesome adult responsibility.
Im really quite curious to hear what you guys think about coming of age! What does it mean for you? Is it adult responsibility like driving, betting, voting or drinking? Is it religious practices like confirmation? It’s such an interpretive idea, and I love that there was no exact answer. Feel free to leave feedback about my project, and share your ideas! Thanks for reading guys, hope you found this interesting!
Coming of age is a huge idea for us as humans. We all want to be treated as adults, and earn everyones respect. But I felt the most important thing to take from my project is that adulthood isn’t all fun and games. We have to understand that there is huge responsibility behind the fun. Growing up means that we’ve come into ourselves, but it also mean that the hard parts and rough areas of our lives are only just beginning. Coming of age is a warning to brace yourselves, because the hurricane is only just getting started.
The take off is just as important as the put on
The truth is that taking off your makeup, is even more important than putting it on! If you don’t take off your makeup you could get infections, it could actually stain your face, and oddly enough it could get stuck in your eye (speaking, unfortunately, from experience).
I’ve been trying out these wipes for a while, and to be honest, I haven’t really found much that I love more! These are so hard to find though, so I have to say that’s the only downfall of them. I’ve been able to pick them up at Tj Maxx’s and Marshalls, but only when they come in. They smell amazing, and so far I have found them in a green, orange, and pink scent. I love them! They take off my makeup SOO well, I have never broken out from them, and they actually help your face to improve skin texture and quality as they’re taking off your makeup.
They do double duty, and they’re so affordable! I believe when I pick them up I usually pay $2.99 for 30 wipes! I highly recommend them, and it’s so important to take off makeup before you wash your face, so you might as well get something that does it all! Hope this helps all you makeup fans out there that have been struggling to find something that works just like I was!
Also, Im very sorry if these pictures don’t post. I attempted to post a couple, but I couldn’t figure out if they did. If you type in Beauty Concepts Detoxifying face wipes in google they should come up, in the three different varieties. While researching photos, I believe I also found them on amazon. So try that too, because you can also buy them off of there!
Go pick up the Beauty Concepts face wipes, because they will change your life!! Plus, if you don’t like them, what have you really lost??
Stay posted for some actual makeup looks that I’ll be doing! Spring will be such a fun time of year!
For What It’s Worth
Recently I’ve been doing a lot of fashion and makeup posts on my blog. Which are fun, and it’s cool to be able to try out things yourselves. But I just wanted to stop for a second and have a kind of real talk with anybody that may be reading my blogs. I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks and some experiences that hopefully all of you can learn from!
Currently I’m 19 years old. I work almost 40 hours a week (some weeks I go over), I work part time at a second job for about 10-12 hours a week, I’m a full time student at 15 credits a semester and I volunteer on a regular basis. Some people may say that I have no life, others may say I have too much of a life. But I feel that there is one thing we can all agree on…I’m quite overwhelmed!
I’ve been working like this since I was 16, so by now I’ve been pretty good at managing my time; but don’t let that fool you, I tend to have breakdowns too!
The point is, that you need to find a good balance for yourself and to do what you love. I’m willing to work those 40 hours a week because I love my job working with makeup. Everyone tells me it’s a perfect job for me, and they’re right, it is. I love what I do, so most of the time getting up and going to work isnt so much of a struggle. Admittedly, it is sometimes hard to be a people person though. Working in a makeup store is trying because everyday you have to understand you’re going in to match foundation and teach people about products. There’s no hiding in the back if you’re having a rough day!
On the opposite end, I continue to go to school because I know just how important a degree will be to my future. I love my job in the cosmetic store, but that’s not necessarily my future. I know with what I’m studying I can be making a lot more money, and going a little bit further in my life. But I just know what my goals are, and I’m pretty good with time management with my homework. And even though the library is a dreaded place, I love being there because it’s the only time I can concentrate enough to get any work done!
Also, I love volunteering, and it’s flexible so I just work it in when I have time. I work with handicapped children, and I help them to play baseball.I love my job, and the kids excitement is reward enough to encourage me to find what little time I have to donate to them.
Basically my life is about balancing out what I love. Even though no one loves learning, I love having the opportunity and knowing what I’ll be able to do with my future. Life is overwhelming, and for a freshman in college the word “overwhelming” doesn’t even begin to describe my life. I just remember what my future plans and goals are, and that I am a hard worker and that I can work everything in.
I’m not saying that to be accomplished you have to be doing all that I am (two jobs, school full time, and volunteering). That’s not what necessarily makes you successful. What makes a person successful is finding something they’re passionate about and devoting a reasonable amount of time and energy to that cause. Whether you enjoy volunteering, school or work just do your best to make sure it’s where you want to be.
Finding a passion in something in life should be everyones goal. Im willing to manage my time because I love everything that I do and wouldnt want to give anything up. But there’s nothing wrong with just devoting time to one thing. And remember, if you get overwhelmed, theres also nothing wrong with taking a step back and giving some time to yourself. I know I’m taking this weekend off to go clubbing one night, and then just sit with my girls all day sunday. Therefore I’ll have the best of both worlds with getting out for a little while, but also being able to just sit back and relax. Take some time for yourself, and go out and find your passion!!

2014 Color Trends
Soooo I figured I’d take a minute to talk about the popular 2014 Color Trends….come on we all know it’s on our minds!! What outfit will we be wearing on that first real day of Spring? What are the summer colors? Will I be able to rock the bold color trend??
You all should be as excited as I am! I appologize for the picture being a little blurry, but overall you can understand the colors. It’s true that not every color will work for you, but there’s plenty of ufn bold colors to go around!
I have to just say the orange and magenta color trends are the ones that are grabbing me. Magenta is the big trend in the makeup industry for this spring, and I can’t wait for our upcoming makeup event to try out this fun color! However, orange is just as bold and makes for a fun lip and shirt combo! My biggest reason for liking the magenta and orange trends are because I feel these are the two colors that will look good on everyone!
For paler skin tones try out blues (cobalt), yellows, and dont be afraid to rock that orange! It’s the perfect pop on light skin!
For olive and darker skin tones go with the purples, greens, and again orange is great!
Hope this helps, and stay tuned because ill be uploading pictures of my makeup looks with these fun spring colors!
Contouring!!
As always, I have to start by apologizing for not having blogged in a while. Between working, school, and I had a little car accident I just have had no time to get on here! Anyway, I will apologize once more, and continue on to the point of the blog post so I don’t waste anyone else’s time!
Okay so the point of this post is to explain a little bit about contouring and highlighting and all that jazz, but also the main point being to tell you all my favorite products and why! So we know the most important part about contouring is the bronzing. So to start you want to create a crisp thin line of bronzer along your cheek bones using the fishy face. You follow the line from the back of your cheek bones towards the corner of your mouth, but don’t go quite all the way to the corner. I usually suggest to stop where the corner of your eye is. Also, I use the hoola bronzer by benefit because it’s a color that looks AMAZING on everyone, and I love that it’s matte. The fact that it’s matte gives for a more naturally tan look. Lastly, you want to make sure to run the bronzer along your hairline because that gives a glow to your face which helps with looking more natural.
Next, you want to apply blush. This goes generally along the apples of your cheeks. I use an angled blush brush because you can get an easily defined line that can be blended out. Start from the upper back portion of your cheek and work down to the apples of your cheeks, but I usually make sure my blush is touching my bronzer. I don’t necessarily have a favorite blush, but for people like me anything in a mauve tone is really nice and is good for everyday. For anyone with light skin and blonde hair, a nice Barbie pink is always good, and for anybody who’s darker obviously a deeper pink with red undertones is good.
Lastly, you always want to top off your contour with a highlighter. It makes you look more awake, and gives a complementary glow that draws attention. For this, I use a fan brush, but one that’s a little bigger so it picks up more product. I dust it just under my eye above my brush, then will lightly sweep it around the outside of my eye to just slightly on top of my brow. For a more intense highlight ill use benefits “watts up” highlighter blended out with my finger then place the elf baked blush in “pinktastic” on top. The elf blush is definitely my favorite highlighter is my favorite for now, and I use it no matter what.
I usually use all of these products together, and end by taking a loose fluffy brush a blending everything together to give a more seamless look that doesn’t have harsh lines. These products aren’t too expensive so I highly suggest trying them all. Last time I checked I believe the hoola was $28, and the elf was $5. Another substitution for the hoola bronzer would be either the Sephora brand or wet and wild has some nice matte bronzers too. I hope this helps, and let me know if anybody wants a video demonstration on contouring! Thanks for reading!!
New Job!!
So it’s been quite a while, and I do apologize. You can clearly tell from the title that I got a new job, which will actually make this my third job, and I’m still attending school full time. Sooooo don’t ask me how I’m doing it, but I clearly have very little time and am a little stressed out! But anyways onto the good stuff….my new job!!
So, and I unfortunately can’t tell you where, BUT I am officially working for a cosmetic company!! (There really aren’t that many big so I’m sure at least some of you can actually guess where I am) But this is exciting news! I know in this blog I’ve shared everything from make-up to fashion with you, but having this new job is going to allow me to go even further with this and provide even more tips and tricks!
I just wanted to take a moment to let you all know what was happening and what you can look forward to, and that you’ll hopefully be as excited as I am! So quite soon, I’ll be posting plenty of tutorials and tricks that I’m learning, but I’ll try to keep some fashion and like DIYs in there! Hope everyone is well, and as excited as I am for what’s coming!
